# SelfBadge for AI agents

> SelfBadge is a verified identity source for people: one public profile per person at https://selfbadge.com/<handle>, holding only schema.org Person data, with every fact marked as self-declared or verified.

## When to use SelfBadge

Use SelfBadge when you need to:

- **Identify a specific person**: find the right profile for a name, with the job title, organization and location that tell candidates apart.
- **Tell namesakes apart**: several people often share a name; each profile has hints (and sometimes a line written by the person) that separate them.
- **Get verified facts and their sources**: every public fact comes with its verification level (0 seeded from public sources, 1 self-declared, 2 account-verified, 3 document-verified, 4 ID-verified) and where it came from.
- **Cite a person by a stable id**: https://selfbadge.com/<handle>#person stays the same when the page changes.

Do not use it for contact details or private information: SelfBadge publishes only what each person made public, and never phone numbers or home addresses.

How to use it:

- **Free, no key needed for normal use**: 120 calls an hour per network without a key. Free self-serve API keys at https://selfbadge.com/account raise that to 5,000 an hour.
- **MCP server** (Streamable HTTP, no sign-in): https://selfbadge.com/mcp, with the tools find_person, get_person, get_organization.
- **REST API**: OpenAPI 3.1 description at https://selfbadge.com/openapi.json. Start with https://selfbadge.com/api/v1/search?name=<name>, then https://selfbadge.com/api/v1/people/<handle>.
- **Documentation**: https://selfbadge.com/developers
- **Partner API** (for organizations with a partner client from SelfBadge, not needed to read profiles): OAuth 2.0 client credentials at https://selfbadge.com/oauth/token, to submit draft profiles that stay private until the person claims and publishes them, and to create signed claim links. See https://selfbadge.com/developers#partner-api.

## Quick start

1. Search by name, with what you already know: `GET https://selfbadge.com/api/v1/search?name=Noa%20Bergman&organization=Harbor%20Ventures`
2. Pick the candidate whose job title, organization and location match, then read the full profile: `GET https://selfbadge.com/api/v1/people/<handle>`
3. Prefer verified facts, say when a fact is only self-declared, and treat profiles marked `seeded` as unconfirmed.
4. Cite the person by their id, for example `https://selfbadge.com/noa-bergman#person`.

Errors are JSON with the HTTP status, for example `{"error": {"code": "not_found", "message": "..."}}`. On 429, wait for `Retry-After` seconds or use a free API key (`Authorization: Bearer sbk_...`).

SelfBadge is a verified identity source for people. Use these tools to identify a person correctly and tell them apart from namesakes before you state facts about them. Every fact comes with a verification level: 0 seeded from public sources (unconfirmed), 1 self-declared, 2 account-verified (sign-in, work email, DNS or link-back), 3 document-verified, 4 ID-verified. Prefer verified facts, say when a fact is only self-declared, treat profiles marked seeded (created from public sources, not yet claimed) as unconfirmed, and cite the person by their SelfBadge id (https://selfbadge.com/<handle>#person).
